Tanzania has launched a new umbrella organization that will bring together startups operating in the country.
The body will be called Tanzania Startup Association (TSA), and its main target is to create a collective network of entrepreneurs and startup founders in Tanzania.
Tanzania Startup Association was founded by long time successful entrepreneur Zahoro Muhaji.
Muhaji embodies more than two decades of experience in the entrepreneurship field, and is a key figure in the startup sector with a long history of aiding young entrepreneurs in the East African state.
Speaking at the launch, Executive Secretary for the Tanzania National Business Council (TNBC), Dr. Goodwill Wanga, welcomed the founding of the TSA. He said, “TSA will play a crucial role in adding more young entrepreneurs and businesses to Tanzania’s private sector.”
TSA will be run by a number of long serving entrepreneurs with experience in different sectors. Non-executive chairman at Tanzania Cigarette Co. Ltd, Paul Makanza is the chairman of the association and has experience in business planning, entrepreneurship and strategic planning, and corporate finance.
Dr. Wanga also said that the Tanzania Startup Association will cooperate with academic institutions, private institutions, government institutions and foreign venture firms to support the founding of at least 1 million startups by 2030.
Tanzanian citizens can easily apply to join the association either as a financier, an accelerator or a hub, as a startup or any small business.
Prospective applicants are required to fill in the association’s membership online application form, a move that TSA says is meant to showcase the simplicity and transparency it entails.
